Another value red from me, but one you might needlessly overlook.  This wine is a great blend of grapes and locations.

Cab, Merlot and Cabernet Franc come together well in this wine and whether you are a novice or an expert you have to enjoy.  Throw a little chill on this and there is almost nothing on the dinner table that this will not pair with.  With flavors of blackberry, licorice and violet, it is lush and decadent- like all reds should be.

Santa Barbara wine with more elegance than most from that area.  Great citrus and peach with some grapefruit overtones.

This wine sees some oak, so it balances the acidity with some nice caramel like vanilla.  Perfect with summer salads or just by itself while you are sitting on your deck.  Actually, good with anything and known to make grumpy people nicer.....

Wines from Geyser Peak

Sunday, July 13, 2008
For several years Geyser Peak Winery has been putting out really good wines across the entire brand. They are typically robust in style and clearly demonstrate the flavor differences of each grape that is being used. Their Sauvignon Blanc would be excellent with fresh and raw seafood/shellfish, such as Tuna, mussels, or oysters. Try their Chardonnay with Veal, Pork, or Chicken - particularly with butter or cream sauces and fresh herbs. The Cab will hold its own against more expensive wines and will match well with Barbeque, grilled meats and red sauces. Again, grocery stores carry these wines and the whites are in the $9-12 price with the Cab moving into the $15 to $18 range.

Louis Latour, Ardeche Chardonnay is another grocery store wine. For those who don't normally buy French wine, and like the flavors of American Chardonnay, I highly recommend this.

Even though this wine is produced for the American pallet, there is a distinctive difference in flavor from either the American or Australian Chardonnay or the French White Burgundies (made from Chardonnay grapes). For me, it's outstanding for the price and comes pretty close to producing the flavors I look for in white wines- Beautiful, crisp, apple flavor with a moderate dose of oak. This wine would be great with roast chicken, grilled corn on the cob, and maybe some sautéed potatoes and onions. Just at $10
